Soweto Extension and Cosmo City Junction
Preliminary route alignment study project to enable the determination of the route for the Soweto Extension and Cosmo City Junction of the proposed Gauteng Rapid Rail Integrated Network.
During the preliminary route alignment phase, the MEC for Roads and Transport caused a notice to be published containing a broad description of the proposed route as well as the particulars of the times and places where the preliminary route report, proposed alignments, and the environmental report were to be inspected by interested and affected parties. Interested and affected parties were provided the opportunity to comment in writing to the MEC on the recommended route. The submission of these comments for the Soweto Extension and Cosmo City Junction of the Gauteng Rapid Rail Integrated Network (GRRIN) Extensions commenced on 26 February 2025 and closed on 31 March 2025 in accordance with Section 6(3)(c) of the Gauteng Transport Infrastructure Act (GTIA).

Soweto Extension and Cosmo City Junction
Following careful consideration of the Preliminary Route Alignment Report, Environmental Investigation Report, and input from the public participation process, the MEC has determined the route for the Soweto Extensions and Cosmo City Junction of the proposed Gauteng Rapid Rail Integrated Network (GRRIN) Extensions, in accordance with Section 6 of the Gauteng Transport Infrastructure Act, (GTIA).
